Information for Contestants

About the Film Contest...

The Fayetteville Public Library is hosting a contest for short documentary films about the Fayetteville experience. Submissions may be personal or factual depending on the filmmaker’s interpretation of this theme.

Eligibility

  • Anyone is eligible to participate, except for film contest judges, employees of the Fayetteville Public Library and relatives of these parties.
  • The contest is intended for independent filmmakers; production companies are not eligible.
  • Age categories include:
    • Youth - grades 12 and under
    • Adult
    • 50 and older (sponsored by Osher Lifelong Learning Institute)

Criteria

  • There is no fee to enter.
  • Contest begins October 12, 2011 and ends June 1, 2012. Film must be made between the launch date and last day of the contest.
  • Submissions must be postmarked by June 1, 2012.
  • Film can be no longer than 10 minutes.
  • Film must be submitted in both of the following formats:
    • DVD
    • Data disc or flash drive in one of the following formats: wmv, mpeg or quick-time movie
  • Filmmakers must submit original work. By submitting film, participant acknowledges that full rights have been obtained for any copyright protected materials. Written permission from copyright holder is required to use copyrighted materials.
  • Submissions will not be returned.

Prizes

  • Judges’ Choice Award: $1,000 and trophy. The film will also be included as an extra feature on the DVD titled Up Among the Hills: the Story of Fayetteville.
  • Runner Up: $400 and trophy
  • Youth Prize: $400 and trophy
  • OLLI 50 and up: $400 and trophy
  • OLLI 50 and up first-time filmmaker: $400 and trophy
  • Selected winners will be screened at FPL’s film festival leading up to the premier of Larry Foley’s documentary film, Up Among the Hills: the Story of Fayetteville.
