Set Up

Before browsing for titles at an OverDrive®-powered site, you'll need to install free required software on your computer / device.

To get started, follow the steps below.

Confirm Requirements

1. Windows® 2000 SP4 (or newer) or Mac® OS X v10.4.10 (or newer).

2. A supported browser:

  • Windows: Internet Explorer® 6 (or newer) or Firefox® 2 (or newer)

Install Adobe Digital Editions

1. Open the http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/

2. Click 'Install'. The 'Adobe Digital Editions Installer' screen is displayed.

3. Click 'Yes'. The 'Adobe Digital Editions License' screen is displayed.

4. To continue, click the 'I Agree' button. Adobe Digital Editions is installed.

5. Adobe Digital Editions opens once installation is complete.

Authorize

Whenever you use a new computer or device for eBooks from an OverDrive-powered site, you will be prompted to 'Authorize'. Follow the instructions to complete the steps.

1. Open Adobe Digital Editions. The 'Setup Assistant' dialog box is displayed.

2. Click 'Continue'. The 'Authorize Computer' screen is displayed.

3. Under 'Authorize Computer', enter the email address and password for your Adobe ID.

If you do not have an Adobe ID…
a. Click 'get an Adobe ID online'.
b. Follow the instructions to sign up for an Adobe ID.
c. Return to the Activation screen. If needed, reopen the 'Activation' screen from the Library view of Adobe Digital Editions by going to Library > Authorize Computer….
d. Enter the email address and password for your Adobe account.
 

4. Click 'Activate'. Your computer is authorized with your Adobe ID.

5. Click 'Finish' to close the 'Setup Assistant' dialog box.

Important: If you would like to transfer an eBook from Adobe Digital Editions to an eBook reader, be sure to authorize your eBook reader using the same Adobe ID.

How it Works

1. Go to your library’s website: www.faylib.org

2. Click on ‘Books and More’ and then click on ‘Download Audiobooks and Ebooks’.

3. Click [click here to access] next to Library2Go image.

4. Sign In (top right of screen). Select Fayetteville Public Library from the drop down menu of libraries. Login using your library barcode number and pin number (last four digits of your phone number).

5. Search for eBooks. You can limit your search to eBooks by clicking on the down arrow on the box located under the search box and search “Adobe EPUB eBooks”, “Adobe PDF eBooks”, “OPEN EPUB eBooks”, and “OPEN PDF eBooks.”

6. You can also limit your search so that it only shows the available eBooks.

7. If you do not limit the format, the eBooks will be mixed with audio books. You can tell the difference by checking the type of book and what they will play on.

8. To check out a book, click Add to Download Cart.

9. Click on Proceed to Checkout. Click on Confirm checkout. You may check out 5 items at a time. Books are checked out for 2 weeks.

How do I transfer Adobe eBooks to a compatible eBook reader?

1. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
2. Connect the eBook reader to your computer.
A link for your reader is displayed under 'Bookshelves'.
3. Click on the Adobe eBook you want to transfer.
4. Drag and drop the Adobe eBook to the link for your eBook reader under 'Bookshelves'.
The eBook is transferred to your eBook reader.
5. Disconnect the eBook reader.

Troubleshooting

I received a prompt in Adobe Digital Editions to 'authorize my computer'. What should I do?

Whenever you use a new computer or device for eBooks from an OverDrive-powered site, you will be prompted to 'Authorize'. Follow the instructions to complete the steps.

1. Open Adobe Digital Editions. The 'Setup Assistant' dialog box is displayed.

2. Click 'Continue'. The 'Authorize Computer' screen is displayed.

3. Under 'Authorize Computer', enter the email address and password for your Adobe ID.


If you do not have an Adobe ID…
a. Click 'get an Adobe ID online'.
b. Follow the instructions to sign up for an Adobe ID.

Important: If you would like to transfer an eBook from Adobe Digital Editions to an eBook reader, be sure to authorize your eBook reader using the same Adobe ID.

How do I authorize a compatible eBook reader?

1. Connect the eBook reader to your computer.
2. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
When the eBook reader is detected, the 'Device Setup Assistant' dialog box is displayed. You are prompted to authorize the reader with the same Adobe ID as you used to authorize your computer.
3. Click 'Authorize Device'.
4. Click 'Finished'.

Instead of the eBook I expected, I downloaded a file named 'urllink.acsm'. What should I do?

The download of 'urllink.acsm' is part of the normal download process for eBooks. However, the file should automatically prompt Adobe Digital Editions to open. You may need to install or reinstall Adobe Digital Editions. To view instructions, refer to instructions in ‘Install Adobe Digital Editions’. After Adobe Digital Editions is installed, return to the OverDrive-powered website. Select the title's 'Download' button. The title should now download.

Still having trouble with Adobe Digital Editions?

Try deactivating Adobe account and then reactivating. To do so:

1. Delete downloaded Library2Go file.

a) Click on Start Menu and select “My Computer”
b) Double click on E: Drive
c) Delete .adobe-digital-ed folder.

2. De-authorize Adobe Digital Editions.

a) Open Adobe Digital Editions
b) On your keyboard, simultaneously press the CTRL, Shift and D buttons (if on Windows) or the CMD, Shift and D buttons (if on a Mac).
c) Click the button that says Deauthorize Computer.

3. Authorize Adobe Digital Editions

a) Click on the Library button (looks like 3 books, at the left of the page)
b) Click on the downward arrow next to the word LIBRARY
c) Click on Authorize Computer
