What is interlibrary loan service?
Interlibrary loan (ILL) service enables customers to borrow materials from libraries outside of the Fayetteville Public Library collection. Lending libraries participate voluntarily in a nation-wide network to provide library users with access to materials.
How much does it cost?
The library assesses a non-refundable $2 processing fee for each interlibrary loan request, payable at the time of request or chargeable to your patron account. Other fees associated with ILL service, such as database searching and shipping charges, are paid by Fayetteville Public Library. If a lending library charges a fee to fill an ILL request, we cannot borrow the item. Customers are responsible for any charges incurred for lost or damaged ILL items.
Who can request materials?
Any Fayetteville Public Library cardholder with an account in good standing may use Interlibrary loan service. University of Arkansas students and faculty are encouraged to request materials supporting course work or research through the University libraries because they have greater borrowing privileges.
What can I request?
Although ILL was designed as a tool for researchers, requests are accepted for most items not owned by FPL, including books, magazine articles, music, film and genealogy materials. Please keep in mind that audio-visual items and genealogical resources may not be obtainable by ILL. Libraries typically do not loan reference materials, current bestsellers, or items in special collections. Items published in the last six months and theses/dissertations cannot be requested.
How many items can I request?
Fayetteville Public Library customers may submit three ILL requests at a time.
Do I have to know which libraries own the items before I place a request?
It is not necessary for customers to locate the materials they would like to borrow. The Reference Department staff will assist you with making the request and with locating potential lenders.
How do I request material using the Interlibrary loan service?
Interlibrary loan requests are taken at the reference desk, by phone (479.856.7250) or by email .
How long does it take to receive Interlibrary loan material?
Most interlibrary loan materials are received within two to four weeks. We regret we cannot guarantee fulfillment within a certain timeframe.
How will I know when my material is available?
Customers may specify whether they would like to be notified by email, phone or mail when their items are available.
What if I no longer need an ILL item I requested?
Please call the Reference Department at 856-7250 immediately should requested materials no longer be needed.
How long do I get to keep an Interlibrary loan?
Interlibrary loans typically check out for two weeks. The lending library may specify a shorter loan period, which Fayetteville Public Library staff and customers must honor.
What if I'm not finished by the due date? Can I renew my item?
Unfortunately, Interlibrary loan materials do not renew. Customers are responsible for overdue charges for ILLs.
What if an item cannot be borrowed?
Customers are notified by mail if materials are not available.
