Resources for those who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina can be found on this page. The links provide information on shelters, employment, and local services. Information on how to volunteer or contribute money is also included. Those affected by Hurricane Katrina are eligible for free library cards and Internet access.

The old Mexican Original plant on Huntsville Road in Fayetteville is being set up as a staging area for Katrina relief supplies. They currently have an urgent need for volunteers to unload trucks and sort materials from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. There is no need to call ahead, just show up ready to help and they will put you to work. They also have need of non-perishable food, bottled water and toiletries.

Northwest Arkansas is reaching out to the victims of Hurricane Katrina in many ways. Groups and individuals in the region are offering housing, aid, resources and support to those that have lost their homes in this terrible tragedy and seek shelter here. This website was created to provide links and information to area residents that would like to contribute to these local relief efforts, and to the new neighbors that are already arriving in our fair cities.

The Salvation Army has established a refugee shelter called the Washington County Pilgrim House in the former Washington County jail.

Hurricane victims should call 1-800-556-8172 to work out a payment plan. The finance division is sending a crisis team to help dealers who may have been affected by the storm, a company spokesperson said.

Ford Credit
Customers affected by Hurricane Katrina have the opportunity to defer up to two vehicle payments without paying extension fees under the Disaster Relief Program. The program is open to customers living in counties that FEMA has declared federal disaster areas as a result of the storm.

Ford Credit customers who are eligible for the Disaster Relief Program should receive letters next week with instructions on how to register. Customers must register within 60 days to qualify. Deferred payments are due at the end of the contract term. Customers may also call, 1-800-723-4016, to register.

GMAC Financial Services
To defer their car loan payments, customers affected by Hurricane Katrina should contact their local GMAC offices for an extension of up to 90 days. The company also will waive late charges for people who have been affected by the hurricane. Customers can also call the customer service line at 1-800-200-4622.
