Cameras pan gouache illustrations as soft background music plays in this iconographic adaptation of Kirby Larson and Mary Nethery's picture book (2008). Based on a true story, this tells the tale of an abandoned dog (Bobbi) and cat (Bob Cat) during Hurricane Katrina's 2005 rampage in New Orleans. The pets find help at an animal shelter, where they are dubbed the "two Bobbies" because of their cropped tails. The authors take turns reading the folksy text, which follows Bobbi and Bob Cat from abandonment and rescue to celebrity when their plight is featured on CNN. Young viewers, who will quickly sympathize with the pets, get a glimpse of the destruction through New Orleans' native Jean Cassels' memorable illustrations. In accompanying interviews, Larson and Nethery talk about the genesis of the story as well as the challenges and rewards of collaborating with friends. Grades K-3. Copyright 2019 Booklist Reviews.
