Sisters Grebe and Traff, a thriller author and a psychologist, combine their talents and training to create a psychological thriller starring a therapist as the lead character. Siri Bergman, a lonely widow who lives by herself on a isolated part of the Swedish coast, is scared of the dark, which is why she leaves all the lights on at her cottage and drinks too much red wine every night. During the day, she invests all her time and energy into seeing clients at her private practice in Stockholm and spending time with her friend and colleague, Aina. In this leisurely paced tale, the reader only gradually learns how Siri became a young widow and why she is so afraid of the dark. When Siri becomes convinced that someone is watching her, neither Aina nor her other colleagues take her seriously—until one of Siri's long-term clients turns dead up on the rocks near Siri's cottage. Tense and chilling, this is a thriller for readers who also enjoyed Camilla Lackberg's The Ice Princess (2010). Copyright 2012 Booklist Reviews.

Living alone outside of Stockholm, where she runs a private psychotherapy practice with her best friend, the recently widowed Dr. Siri Bergman is convinced that someone has been peering through her window at night. Then the body of one her patients is found floating in the waters near her cottage, and she knows that she's in trouble. Billed as a rule-breaking thriller, this book by a pair of Swedish sisters was a hit in Europe.

PW Reviews 2012 May #3

This powerful first in a new thriller series from Swedish sisters Grebe and Träff introduces a delightfully flawed heroine, Dr. Siri Bergman, a psychologist who sleeps with the lights on. Riddled with fears since her husband's death in a diving accident, Siri lives alone in an isolated cottage in the Swedish countryside. When Siri finds the lifeless body of one of her patients, the fragile but manipulative Sara Matteus, floating in the lake near her cottage, she fears she'll be the next victim. After receiving a threatening note, Siri enlists the help of a detective, Markus Stenberg. Together they sift through her patient files and delve into the lives of her friends, and soon everyone in her inner circle becomes a suspect. Scenes from Siri's therapy sessions with her patients add a note of credibility and immediacy to her predicament. The action moves swiftly to a surprising climax. Agent: Anna Frankl and Joakim Hansson, the Nordin Agency. (July)
