Booklist Reviews 2017 December #2

Pain and torment built Holly's new life. When the crazed Archangel Uram abducted Holly in Angels' Blood (2009), he slaughtered her friends before making her drink his blood. This catalyst created the new Holly—part vampire and part mystery. It's something the paranormal community of New York has never seen, and her mentor, Venom, aims to unravel what exactly Holly is. And maybe razz the girl, formerly known as Sorrow, along the way. The two have had a relatively antagonistic relationship in the past, and Holly doesn't see that changing. As a kidnapping plot threatens Holly's life, they learn to work together and find that their tension is hiding some deeper emotions. Singh's fans won't be let down by this latest installment of the Guild Hunters series. Venom and Holly inject the story with enough excitement, flirting, and delicious teasing to keep the pages turning. Their actions interweave with the greater story of hunter-cum-angel Elena and her paramour, archangel Raphael, so new readers may need to catch up to understand the overarching tale.
