LJ Reviews 2018 August #1

After solving a hit-and-run case, former commercial spokesperson Dayna Anderson hopes to become an apprentice to cop-turned-private investigator Aubrey Adams-Parker. She thinks she's found the perfect case when Lyla Davis, spokesperson for the upcoming Silver Sphere Awards event, is killed at an ATM. Dayna's boyfriend, hot actor Omari Grant, had been at the ATM just minutes earlier. Teaming up with best friend Sienna Hayes, a reality star wannabe, and using her wiles and connections to probe the social media secrets of Hollywood's biggest stars, Dayna's soon caught up in the gossip, all the while urging Aubrey to become a licensed PI so she can continue her own adventures. Yet Dayna's schemes are sidetracked when she realizes she's picked the wrong person as the killer. VERDICT Following the Agatha Award-winning debut, Hollywood Homicide, with Garrett's Tinseltown expertise adding to the fun and humor, Dayna continues her escapades with the help of quirky friends and a mysterious man known only as Z. Fans of Janet Evanovich's "Stephanie Plum" series will feel right at home.—Lesa Holstine, Evansville Vanderburgh P.L., IN

PW Reviews 2018 June #4

Agatha-winner Garrett's delightful sequel to 2017's Hollywood Homicide finds former L.A. actress Dayna "Day" Anderson, who was the spokesperson for Chubby's Chicken until a photographer caught her eating something other than one of the fast-food franchise's two-piece combo deals, struggling to launch her career as a private investigator. Day has had some modest success working with a PI who turns out to be unlicensed, but it's not enough to pay her bills. A chance to really prove herself comes along when Hollywood publicist Lyla Davis is fatally shot at an ATM early one morning on La Brea Blvd. Day soon realizes that the apparent botched robbery was a set-up, and she and sidekick Sienna follow the clues to infamous celebrity gossip Anani Miss. The Lucy-and-Ethel-like antics of Day and Sienna provide plenty of laughs, but readers will also enjoy watching Day as she develops her sleuthing skills, including savvy social media tactics. Garrett, who wrote for TV's Cold Case, brings a smart insider's view of contemporary Hollywood to this lighthearted series. Agent: Michelle Richter, Fuse Literary. (Aug.)
