Booklist Reviews 2019 July #1

College hasn't been what NYU freshman Mariam Vakilian was hoping it would be, partly because she's still hung up on her ex, Caleb. Mariam's first love, the guy she lost her virginity to, is across the country at school in California, and since he didn't see long-distance working out, he broke her heart. A coupon eventually prompts her to sign up for a virtual reality dating site. When one of her matches turns out to be Caleb, Mariam is sure it's a sign that they're meant to be. If she disguises herself behind the tech for virtual dates and he falls in love all over again, he'll have to admit it, too. But things are more complicated then that, and the fact that she's met one of her other matches at school—and is hitting it off with him—isn't simplifying things. Tash (The Geek's Guide to Unrequited Love, 2016) captures the uncertainty of freshman year of college. If none of the romances quite sparkle, that won't discourage readers interested in the ultra-modern approach to dating. Grades 9-12. Copyright 2019 Booklist Reviews.
