If you have ever felt discouraged trying to communicate with your baby, you have a desire to raise multilingual children, or you are looking for something fun to focus on while spending more time at home, join us and presenter Michelle Hopkins for an evening discussing American Sign Language, specifically signing with your baby! We will discuss when and how to introduce signs to your child, as well as what vocabulary may be the most beneficial. Registration for this Zoom event is required. Participants will be emailed a link before the program.
About the Instructor: Michelle Hopkins has an undergraduate degree in sign language interpretation from Quincy University and a Master’s of Education in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education from Saint Joseph’s University. She has worked as an educational interpreter in Southeast Iowa for students between three years old and third grade and a teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing, working with infants and their families and school age children through high school. Her passion has continued to grow because of her work with both children who had hearing loss and their hearing peers who absorbed American Sign Language (ASL) instruction like sponges.
