Teen

At FPL, we have a space dedicated not just to teen books but to teens themselves. Complete with a large collection of Young Adult books, study rooms, and a gaming room, the Teen Library is a space to relax, study, hang out with friends, and, most importantly, thrive.

FPL created a dedicated teens-only space that offers freedom, safety, and a place to study and be with friends exclusively for our patrons in grades 5 – 12.

Teen Gaming Room

The Teen Gaming Room is available to students in grades 5 – 12. We have a PlayStation 5, Switch and Xbox. It is available for two hours per day, per individual or group. The room can be booked in-person at the Teen Service Desk. The Teen Gaming Room operates on a first come first serve basis and cannot be reserved in advance. A library card is required to book it and to check out specific controllers. Teen patrons must have a parent present with a Photo ID to obtain a library card. Board games are available to play in the Teen Library and do not require a library card.

Teen Events

Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is open to students in grades 7–12. TAB helps FPL better serve teens by planning relevant programming, reviewing existing items in library collections as well as recommending new additions, and volunteering at eligible library-sponsored events.

Boundless Book Society is a pressure-free, monthly teen book club that features acclaimed and diverse books. Registrants will receive a copy of the book to keep. We will meet in person at the library and simultaneously on Zoom to chat about books! The best part is you do not have to read the book before the meeting – you can still join us for the chat.

Summer Reading Club (SRC) is our way of encouraging everyone to read together all summer long – in whatever form that takes! It could be audiobooks, eBooks, graphic novels, picture books, chapter books – we love them all!  You can win prizes at certain milestones, and special events are held throughout the summer.

Gaming at FPL is open to those in grades 5–12 and is first come, first served. The Teen Library has a gaming room with an X-box and Nintendo Switch, and board and table games are also available. Gaming events can be found here.

WordPlay Writers' Club for 4 – 12 grades provides a weekly meeting place for young authors who are interested in honing their creative writing skills. Writers receive writing prompts, discuss tips and tricks, and have fun sharing the projects they have been working on.
