DNA testing can be confusing. In this presentation, we’ll unravel the basics of DNA and genealogy, setting the stage for understanding why genetic testing is a powerful tool for genealogy. Discover more about the three main types of DNA tests — Y-DNA, mitochondrial DNA, and autosomal DNA.

About the speaker:   Diana Elder, AG, AGL is an Accredited Genealogist professional, lecturer, and author. Diana has twenty-one years of research experience and holds credentials for genealogy research and lecturing through the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists (ICAPGen). Her area of expertise is the United States Gulf South Region, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.

She graduated from Brigham Young University Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. A lifelong learner and educator, Diana combines her passion for teaching and genealogy in numerous ways. She wrote the bestselling book Research Like a Pro: A Genealogist’s Guide and co-authored the companion volume, Research Like a Pro with DNA: A Genealogist’s Guide to Finding and Confirming Ancestors with DNA Evidence. Knowing that we learn best by doing, she created the Research Like a Pro study group and e-Course to help researchers put the RLP process into practice. Diana also writes regular research tips for FamilyLocket and hosts the Research Like a Pro Genealogy Podcast with Nicole Dyer.
