What are your favorite things about the Fayetteville Public Library?

It's a very inviting space that is easy to navigate and very comfortable. Being a service industry person, I really appreciate the helpful and friendly staff.

Why do you support your local library?

For about 10 years, I lived in larger cities on the East Coast, and the public libraries there were so different than the libraries I was used to growing up in Arkansas. They were these grand, architecturally beautiful buildings that, once you were inside, were so peaceful and welcoming. The city was roaring outside, but inside there were all these people, from every walk of life, enjoying the solace of a good book or just relaxing as they escape from the city for a while. There was so much information there; you could spend forever trying to discover all of it. I remember countless afternoons in the main Boston Public Library. The library is a special place that opens its doors to all people within its community...it is called the "public library." I hope that people here feel the same way about our library.

If you were stranded on a desert island with only one book, what would it be?

Although it's really a set of memoirs, I would have to say, again, A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway. So simple, yet so vivid...makes you want to be an American expat living in Paris in the 20's. Completely changed the way I looked at literature.

Favorite memory or event attended at the Fayetteville Public Library.

Really looking forward to the Anthony Bourdain event coming up.

What book are you recommending to friends right now?

I don't recommend books too often, but if someone asked me what they should read, I'd probably throw Fitzgerald or Mailer out there. For something more modern, I'm a big fan of Rick Moody and Chuck Palahniuk (although you have to be careful when recommending these two — which is why I rarely recommend books).

What are your hobbies?

Well, I do play a lot of golf, not always well, but definitely as much as I can.

What are some of your favorite things about Fayetteville?

The friends my wife and I have made here, the energy the University injects into the community, the loyal customers who support our business, the natural landscape of the surrounding areas...and, honestly, I love the direct flights out of our airport.

Favorite place in the library to read?

I typically like to find a quiet place, sitting on the floor, behind some book shelves, but before too long my back sure enjoys a big comfy chair.
