Northwest Arkansas Poetry Buzz: Read and Write-a-thon

Walker Community Room

Join us on Saturday, May 20 at 10:30 am for the Northwest Arkansas Poetry Buzz: Read & Write-a-thon.  This is an opportunity for new and seasoned poets to mingle, share their work, and enjoy a writing workshop with Arkansas poet Karen Hayes.

Karen Hayes is a North Little Rock poet.  She reads at coffee houses, libraries, bars and trolley stops.  She is an alumna of the Writers Colony at Dairy Hollow. Karen hobnobs with writers and would-be writers on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Laman Poetry Scribble, an unWorkshop at the William F. Laman Library in North Little Rock.  She also wrangles poets and readers for The Poet is IN, a non-stop poetry reading booth at Hot Springs Arts & The Park.  Karen is the OOO (Only Operating Officer) and employee of Dogtown Poetry on Demand.  Her 1971 manual Olivetti typewriter travels with her to both indoor and outdoor events.

  • 10:30 am:  Meet and Greet -- All poets and would-be poets are welcome.  Informal and fun.
  • 11:00 am:  Poetry Read-a-thon --  Poets, bring your work!  This will be a low-key, no-mic reading.  Plan to read for less than 5 minutes, but do bring more than one selection.  If the group is small, poets can read more than once.  We'll use the stage at the Walker Community Room so we can hear the poems.  Sit or stand, but don't stand on ceremony.  Have someone else read your work if  you prefer.  This is an exchange, not a performance.  And of course, no one is required to read to participate.
  • 12:00 pm:  Poetry Write-a-thon -- Bring what you like to write with or on.  We'll scribble some lightning rounds, play with prompts, engage in word barter, squeeze as much creative juice as we can from one another.  We may even accidentally write a poem.

Registration is suggested, but drop-ins are welcome.
