Raelyn Munneke will lead a workshop on character development in screenwriting, how it builds the engine of your story and gets you past the classic writer’s block.
As you develop your script, whether TV or film, there are often two drivers fighting for the wheel – plot and character. But which one should be in the captain’s seat? Trick question, it’s both. You can’t have one without the other. In this workshop, we will consider the development of character, how it builds the engine of your story and gets you past the classic writer’s block.
About the instructor:
As the president of the NWA Screenwriters Collective, Raelyn Munneke is honored to lead the growing community of screenwriters, cultivating fellowship and education in the craft. With a career that has spanned both documentary and narrative film, Raelyn has produced series for ESPN and The Golf Channel and earned an Emmy nomination in the Mid-America Region for her documentary about Northwest Arkansas, HOG TOWN.
One of her sci-fi drama TV pilots reached Second Rounder at Austin Film Festival in 2023 and CineStory Quarterfinalist in 2024, leading her to industry mentorship from professional writers, producers and managers. Her short comedy screenplay, MOM.ENT OF PEACE also received Second Rounder at AFF screenplay competition and was produced in 2022 with Raelyn directing and editing, entering a recent tour of festivals across the region.
As a freelance filmmaker and owner of Munneke Productions, while writing daily, she manages a business that scales to serve clients from non-profits to Fortune 500’s, including Disney, Johnson & Johnson, and Walmart International. From filming across the globe, to documenting the neighbor next door, these real-life stories have inspired Raelyn in her narrative imagination.
Among her artistic pursuits, she also shares her passions with her three active and creative children, Asher (10), August (8), and Norah (6) alongside her husband, Andrew in the rolling hills of Fayetteville, AR.
