Celebrate Earth Day with two thought-provoking environmentalism-themed film screenings!
Lawns are undeniably an American symbol. But what do they really symbolize, pride and prosperity, or waste and conformity?
Gimme Green is a humorous look at the American obsession with the residential lawn and the effects it has on our environment, our wallets and our outlook on life. From the limitless subdivisions of Florida to sod farms in the arid southwest, Gimme Green peers behind the curtain of the $40-billion industry that fuels our nation's largest irrigated crop—the lawn. Isaac Brown, a documentary filmmaker, photographer, and graphic artist and Eric Flagg, an environmental scientist and filmmaker spent a year and a half directing, shooting, and editing Gimme Green. The resulting film went on to win Best Documentary at the Oxford International Film Festival and the Phoenix Film Festival.
Did you know that the introduction of beavers to a new area can restore freshwater ecosystems?
Beavers are a true ecosystem engineer species, increasing the diversity of habitats available for a profusion of other species. Beavers Without Borders is a short documentary hosted by Sophie Pavelle, filmed and produced by Nina Constable Media, as they journey to sites of beaver reintroduction in the UK. The film shines a light on the ecological, social and climatic benefits of beavers.
