Diabetes is a common condition that affects people of all ages. It happens when your blood sugar (glucose) is too high. If not managed, diabetes can lead to serious health problems.
The technical name for diabetes is diabetes mellitus. To understand diabetes, it's important to understand how the body uses blood sugar (glucose). Glucose is an important source of energy for the cells that make up muscles and tissues. It's also the brain's main source of fuel. There are several forms of diabetes. Type 2 is the most common. All forms are manageable with medications and/or lifestyle changes so you can live a healthy life and prevent complications. Come away with a better understanding of the types of diabetes, symptoms, risk factors, and complications from this condition. Dr. Rodriguez will be available for questions after her presentation.
