Explore field recording and sound design by creating a soundscape for a silent video clip. No experience needed, just listening and curiosity.
Point the mic. Hit record. Capture the sound - or at least try! The world is full of noise, music, and fleeting sonic moments. In this workshop, we’ll explore the practice of field recording by learning how to listen, how to capture sound, and how to work with what we collect.
Participants will begin by viewing a short, silent piece of video and consider what kinds of sounds belong with the imagery. From there, we’ll step outside to record environmental sounds using phones or handheld recorders, focusing on texture, distance, movement, and atmosphere rather than technical perfection. Beginners are welcome. Gear will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own.
