Fayetteville National Cemetery & Oaks Cemetery Tours *
Wednesday, July 01
10:00am - 11:00am
Join us for a short walking tour of two important Fayetteville Cemeteries led by historian JB Hogan.
A place of quiet honor in the heart of Fayetteville, the historic National Cemetery dates to 1867 and serves as the final resting place for veterans from the Civil War through modern conflicts. Local historian JB Hogan will lead us through a short stroll of the rolling hills, mature hardwoods, and rows of white marble headstones to honor our countries bravest.
For the second part of the tour, we will step next door to one of Fayetteville's oldest burial grounds, Oaks Cemetery. Oaks Cemetery served as the only area specifically set aside for African American burials in the city. This site has remained an important part of the local community as a record of the newly free generations that survived the Civil War and their descendants in northwest Arkansas. Please join us in honoring some of our first citizens.
Please bring water, wear comfortable shoes, and meet us at the entrance on S. Lt. Col Leroy Pond Ave.
For disability accommodations, call 479.856.7250 or email questions@faylib.org 2-3 weekdays before a program. Plan your visit by viewing our building map and details on accessibility services.
