Genre Breakout Session

Join Kate Hart and Kristin Gray for a breakout session about Children and Young Adult books!

Working with their peers, writers will discuss ways to make their work marketable, whether it is to agents, publishers or readers. Writers will practice talking about their work succinctly. The discussion will be moderated by a writer who has gone through the publishing process in the genre. This session will also allow writers to meet make connections with other writers.

About the Moderators

Kristin L. Gray writes picture books and novels for children including: The Amelia Six: an Amelia Earhart Mystery, an Amazon editors’ pick, William Allen White Award nominee, and Junior Library Guild selection; and the forthcoming polar whodunit Murder at Penguin Ranch. A retired nurse and student pilot, Kristin adores science, aviation, and stories with ghosts. She calls Fayetteville home and is rarely seen without her library card and most favorite book, her passport. 

Kate Hart is the author of After the Fall, a young adult novel chosen by the Arkansas Center for the Book as a 2017 Arkansas Gem. Her writing has been featured in a number of anthologies, including Legendary Frybread Drive-In, winner of the 2026 Michael L. Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature, the Odyssey Honor Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production, & the American Indian Youth Literature Award for Best Young Adult Book. In her many lives, Kate has also served as a teacher and grant writer and pursues creatives ventures as a beadwork artist and co-owner of Natural State Treehouses.
