Join us for a panel discussion on gender identity in partnership with the University of Arkansas Multicultural Center.

Presented in partnership with the University of Arkansas Multicultural Center.

This will be a panel discussion on gender identity featuring the voices of local gender nonconforming individuals and a local healthcare provider. Our moderator is Cira Abiseid from the University of Arkansas. Panelists are Dr. Stephanie Ho from VECTOR Health & Wellness, and Dr. Asher Morgan and Dr. Ren Pepitone from the University of Arkansas.

Registration is required for in-person attendance. It will also be livestreamed on our Facebook page; watching virtually does not require registration.

Cira Abiseid was born in Clinton, Arkansas where she graduated high school in 2001. Cira earned a B.S. in Political Science with a minor in Philosophy and then earned another B.S. in Psychology several years later. She worked in retail management for 13 years before leaving her job to pursue a Master’s of Social Work at the University of Arkansas. Cira identifies as a cisgendered lesbian who uses she/her/hers pronouns. She was drawn away from the retail world by a desire to be an advocate for social justice and change; particularly in marginalized and oppressed communities. Cira plans to work in outreach and therapy with LGBTQIA+ youth to increase their quality of life, equal representation, and access to resources. In her free time, Cira enjoys reading, hiking, gardening and any activity with her wife and child.

Dr. Stephanie Ho started providing gender-affirming hormone therapy at her private practice in 2015. In 2017, she closed her private practice to work full-time at Planned Parenthood. After Planned Parenthood closed, Dr. Ho partnered with another provider to open VECTOR Health & Wellness which is a sex-positive, pro-choice clinic providing inclusive, gender-affirming primary care, sexual and reproductive health, and gender-affirming hormone therapy. Dr. Ho is a fellow through Physicians for Reproductive Health and a member of the Fayetteville Board of Health, and she has been recognized for her advocacy work to support access to abortion care and equitable healthcare for LGBTQIA+ folks.  Dr. Ho has two cats and is always up for a nap.

Dr. Asher Morgan is a Health and Wellness Educator at the University of Arkansas. In their 10 years on campus, they have dedicated themselves to providing space and visibility for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff, in particular non-binary and transgender individuals. They have a passion for using their privileges in the world to create spaces and conversations for those who may not or who are not yet ready to come to the table. They have a wonderful wife of 6 years, two amazing kids, a house full of dogs, love Red Sox and Razorback baseball, and doing pretty much anything outdoors.

Dr. Ren Pepitone is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Arkansas. Their research investigates the construction of masculinities in Great Britain and its empire, with a particular focus on the intersections of gender, race, class and geography. They teach a variety of classes on gender and culture, including LGBTQ+ Histories.
