Design and make your own post-apocalyptic car using 3D printed parts and more!
Join maker Bellamy Brooks in a workshop on kitbashing. During this teen program, participants will learn how to take a pre-existing model of a Hot Wheels car and turn it into a post-apocalyptic battle-ready figure. They will learn to use 3D printers to make car parts and components to modify the toy. They will also learn how to assemble the models, paint and weather them. In the end, they will have turned a Hot Wheels car into the Mad Max-inspired car of their dreams.
Kitbashing: Before the era of 3D printing, designers for movies like Star Wars and Blade Runner would take various model kits and combine them to create sci-fi vehicles and spaceships. This process is called kitbashing. With the advent of 3D printers, you don't have to combine airplane and ship parts, but can download and print off specific components to help bring your vision to life.
Bellamy Brooks is a character designer and 3D modeler working in the animation industry. She is passionate about the maker community and loves to create interesting models for use in tabletop board games.
