Jessica Kowalski will highlight important pre-colonial archaeological sites in the Ozarks in honor of National Native American Heritage Month.
The Ozarks of Northwest Arkansas has a rich archeological record, reflecting thousands of years of Native American occupation. This area of Arkansas is well-known for the excellent preservation of organic materials and for a rock art tradition. In this presentation, Jessica Kowalski will highlight important pre-colonial archaeological sites and artifacts from this area of the state while also discussing gaps in knowledge about the past.
Jessica Kowalski is a Station Archeologist at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville Research Station of the Arkansas Archeological Survey and Assistant Research Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Arkansas. Her territory includes 12 counties in Northwest Arkansas. Her research interests include ancient sociopolitical complexity, cultural landscapes, and the production and use of Native American ceramics.
