Please join us for our 2nd Sunday Local Author Kyle Mooty on Sunday, August 12th from 2:00pm-4:00pm in the Walker Community Room. Kyle will read from his new book “New Set of Downs: How Johnny Dyess Fought off His Greatest Would-Be Tackler and Returned to Winning Ways”.

Johnny Dyess, a small-town football star played four remarkable seasons under the legendary “Bear” Bryant at Alabama; returning home only to get involved in the drug culture and eventually carrying out God’s word. New Set of Downs takes us through Dyess' glory years on the gridiron, as well as many dark locations, including a warehouse in Atlanta where he carried a large gun to protect himself during a drug deal. A dozen years later, Dyess was actually saved by people from ironically the Auburn/Opelika area, home of his most bitter rival from the gridiron. Just a country boy from South Alabama, he was given life-restoring advice from as far away as New York City, eventually returning home to face the legal music. Dyess received a full pardon from the board of the Alabama Pardon and Paroles Department.

Today, Dyess speaks of his unrelenting faith to high schools, church groups and more, and he is enjoying life as an assistant football coach at his high school alma mater.

Kyle is an 82-time winner of various press association honors in different time zones and vastly different climates. He now serves his dual role as general manager of the Eufaula (Alabama) Tribune and editor of The Enterprise (Alabama) Ledger with the BH Media Group. He is a graduate of Fayetteville High School and has worked at various media outlets in Northwest Arkansas.

Books will be available for sale and signing after his presentation.
