Let’s write some poems! In this supportive/non-critical and lively workshop, we’ll focus on experimenting on the page with some of the fundamental elements of poetry: sensory images, sound orchestration, simile, and metaphor. After a few warm-up exercises, we’ll dive into composing and sharing our own original odes and haikus. Bring your enthusiasm, paper, and a pen. I'll supply the rest.

Martha Silano is the author of five books of poetry, including Gravity Assist, Reckless Lovely, and The Little Office of the Immaculate Conception, all from Saturnalia Books. She also co-authored, with Kelli Russell Agodon, The Daily Poet: Day-By-Day Prompts for your Writing Practice (Two Sylvias Press, 2013). Martha’s poems have appeared in Poetry, New England Review, Paris Review, and Best American Poetry, among others. She teaches at Bellevue College, near her home in Seattle, WA.

This event will take place in the Ann Henry Board Room. Registration is required and will opens February 16th.
