FAQs about FPL's 2027 Budget
Posted on October 23, 2026
Is the library running out of money?
No. Our budget for this year is balanced. That means we are not spending more than we bring in. The city asked the library to find ways to spend 15% less in 2027.
Where does the library’s money come from?
70% of it comes from a local property tax voted on by the people of Fayetteville just for the library. About 20% comes from the city to help run the library, and buy books and computers. The rest comes from donations, grants, and small fees.
Is the whole library budget being cut 15%?
No, the 15% cut refers to the money the library gets from the city.
What is the library doing about this?
We are working closely with the city and looking carefully at every part of our budget. A new group of library leaders and community members, called the Long-Term Revenue Committee, will look for steady, long-term ways to pay for the library and to make it run even better. Our goal is a library that stays open and accessible to all.
Will my library change?
We will continually evaluate how our programs and services are impacted. As we plan for 2027, our goal is to remain open the current 64 hours of the week and continue to be accessible to all.
When will we know more?
We will share news as soon as decisions are made. Visit our website and follow our social media for updates.
