Learn about participating in the Great Backyard Bird Count and get help setting up your Merlin Bird ID app!
The Great Backyard Bird Count, happening this year from February 14 through 17, is a global citizen science effort to record bird sightings for four days every February. This year, participants are asked to birdwatch for just 15 minutes each day, and record every bird they see or hear. Any bird sighting submitted to Merlin Bird ID during these four days will be automatically added to the count and contributes to a better understanding of bird populations, migration patterns, and important stopover points around the world.
Merlin Bird ID is a free app available for iOS or Android that allows birders of all levels to participate in watching, identifying, and recording bird sightings around the world. The app boasts a variety of features, including resources to help identify birds by photo, sound recording, or answering step-by-step questions and allows users to submit and browse highlights and tips with their fellow birders.
All you needed to get started is a smartphone with data or Wi-Fi access! Please register to reserve your spot. Can't make this date? This learning session is also happening on Thursday, February 13. Register here! →
