Genre Breakout Session

Join J.B. Hogan for a breakout session about publishing non-fiction!

Working with their peers, writers will discuss ways to make their work marketable, whether it is to agents, publishers or readers. Writers will practice talking about their work succinctly. The discussion will be moderated by a writer who has gone through the publishing process in the genre. This session will also allow writers to meet make connections with other writers.

About the Presenter

J. B. Hogan is an author, poet, and local historian. A veteran of the U. S. Air Force Security Service and Tactical Air Command, he holds a Ph.D. in English Literature from Arizona State University (1979). For many years he worked as a technical writer in Arizona and Colorado. To date, he has published some 400 stories, poems, and articles, as well as over a dozen books including Angels in the Ozarks, The Square Book (secondary author), and two volumes in his Forgotten Fayetteville and Washington County series.

He has served as chair and a member of the Fayetteville (AR) Historic District Commission and as president and board member of the Washington County (AR) Historical Society (WCHS). In October 2019, he received the WCHS Distinguished Citizen Award. In 2024 he was awarded the Secretary of State’s Arkansas Diamond Award. He is the 2025 inductee into the Arkansas Writers Hall of Fame.

This workshop is part of our Publishing Pathways series for adults interested in writing and publishing their work, including poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and journalistic writing of all lengths and styles.
