Saturday, August 29
9:30am - 11:00am

Fayetteville Public Library

Ann Henry Board Room (3rd Floor)

Presenter Charlie Alison will go over what to expect when working with an editor.

Editors? What are they good for? Absolutely nothing, except catching misspelled names, typos, Chicago style, Oxford comas, misplaced modifiers, dangling participles and structural issues with our writing. Ideally, they also believe in us, our writing and the story we want to tell.

About the presenter

Charlie Alison is a jack of all trades in the world of news, editorial and public relations content. He likes to write, edit, design, photograph and do graphic art, not necessarily at the same time. He's also helped create documentary films and contributed a 50-episode podcast to the local NPR affiliate, KUAF. He is currently executive editor for the office of university relations at the University of Arkansas. He edits the university’s alumni magazine, its catalogs of study and the university’s daily news email, which has about 40,000 subscribers and garners 1.7 million page visits per year. He has authored a book on Fayetteville history, co-authored a pictorial book of historic Fayetteville images and have a book under contract with the University of Arkansas Press for a history of the university. He also edited the quarterly historical journal of the Washington County Historical Society for eight years and is publishing a weekly mini-literary magazine called Ozark Hollow via email subscription through Substack.

This workshop is part of our Publishing Pathways series for adults interested in writing and publishing their work, including poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and journalistic writing of all lengths and styles.
