What makes a book controversial and who gets to decide what we read? Read a banned book of your choice (see our list for ideas!) and get together to discuss its ideas and themes, as well as why it has faced challenges.
Come share your perspective, listen to others, and engage in an open conversation about censorship and the freedom to read.
Meet the Facilitator
Sean P. Connors is an associate professor of English education at the University of Arkansas. A former high school English teacher, his scholarship and teaching focuses on visual storytelling and the application of diverse critical perspectives to young adult literature. He is the co-author of Neoliberalism and Young Adult Fiction: Exceptionalism, Exploitation, Erasure, and the co-editor of Teaching Girls on Fire: Essays on Dystopian Young Adult Literature in the Classroom.
