Writers will learn to trust their five senses and transform what's right in front of them into poetry.
Let’s go to the kitchen and write a poem! Join Laura Washburn (Director of Creative Writing at Pittsburg State University) to play with words and fruits and vegetables and maybe a little bit of marshmallow and chocolate, exploring smells and tastes and the way foods feel in our mouths and in our hands and the way words remind us of the world. Does the banana deserve a moment of fame? What about the outside of a kiwi? Where was the starfruit born? Which foods have the wrong names? Can a poem be gooey or juicy or too dry to eat? Participants will write a poem and make a broadside (poster) of their poem.
This workshop is free and open to students who have completed grades 4-7. Supplies will be provided, but registration is required. Online registration opens Tuesday, May 30 at 9:00 am.
