Kiley Reid comes to Fayetteville to discuss her new book, Come and Get It.

Kiley Reid’s instant New York Times bestselling debut, Such a Fun Age, dazzled readers with its nuanced yet accessible examination of race, class, and privilege and heralded Reid’s arrival as an urgent, exhilarating new voice in fiction. Longlisted for the Booker Prize and a coveted Reese’s Book Club selection, the novel—which tackles its fraught subject matter with both razor-sharp acuity and cringe-worthy accuracy—was both the #1 Indie Next and LibraryReads pick for January 2020 and was widely regarded as one of the best books of the year by the Washington Post, NPR, Slate, Vogue, Elle, Glamour, Good Housekeeping, Parade, InStyle, Vox, Insider, and more. Reid also won the African American Literary Award and a Goodreads Choice Award and was a finalist for the Mark Twain American Voice in Literature Award; the NYPL Young Lions Award; and the NAACP Image Award—remarkable high-profile recognition that clearly marked her as a writer to watch.

Reid returns with her highly anticipated sophomore outing, Come and Get It (G. P. Putnam’s Sons; On Sale: January 30, 2024), another intoxicating and ambitious novel about the stickiness of transactional relationships that is every bit the fun, layered, incisive tale her readers have come to expect. Set at the University of Arkansas, this deliciously provocative story centers on a residential assistant whose messy entanglement with a professor and three unruly students will have surprising consequences for everyone involved. Reid’s writing brims with confidence, offering up searing indictments of materialism and life under late capitalism as the expertly paced plot hurtles towards its astonishing, comically horrifying climax.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Kiley Reid is the author of Such a Fun Age, which was a New York Times bestseller and longlisted for the Booker Prize. Her writing has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Playboy, The Guardian, and others. Reid is currently an assistant professor at the University of Michigan. As noted in the acknowledgements of Reid's first novel, Such a Fun Age, she has spent time living and writing in Fayetteville.
