Look through the past with this live demonstration of tintype photography—a 19th-century image-making process that produces hauntingly beautiful metal plate portraits. Join tintype photographer Matthew Nixson of Holliday Tintype as he walks through the entire process from start to finish, including preparing the plate, taking the photograph, and developing it on-site. Watch as the image slowly appears before your eyes, and learn about the history, chemistry, and craft that keep this analog art alive.
Matthew Nixson as a self-taught photographer, lowbrow painter, and silversmith. He grew up in a small town in Northwest Arkansas and spent his childhood wandering the woods of the Ozark Mountains. He splits his time between his home in Fayetteville and Waco, Texas. He works full-time as a traveling tintype photographer, utilizing the century's old process to create handmade portraits that will last a lifetime.
