Cole Fennel caught the rock climbing bug his senior year in high school and almost instantly fell for it. It didn’t take long to realize rock climbing was much more than a sport or a hobby. During a multi-year stint in Colorado, Cole was in the Rockies on the local rocks or on the road and almost exclusively trad climbed. He took annual trips to Hueco Tanks and sport climbed here and there, but the majority of his non-work time was spent in places like Eldorado Canyon and Rocky Mountain National Park with a few long stints in Yosemite Valley and the Moab area. Cole and his wife Mary returned to Fayetteville in 2007. After returning to Arkansas, Cole worked on a comprehensive roped climbing guidebook to his home state. Since the release of “Rock Climbing Arkansas: Comprehensive Roped Climbing and Select Bouldering”, Cole’s focus has shifted entirely to developing. He has hiked and scrubbed a ton of boulders over the last few years, but he is most psyched hanging on a rope with drill in his hand bolting choss.
