Please join us for a poetry workshop with local writer, Dylan Hopper!

“You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive.”
-James Baldwin

In this workshop, we will engage with poetry as not only a form of expression but as a method of more fully inhabiting the world with consciousness and empathy. In this course, you will encounter questions that will help shape your identity as a writer— What do you hope to accomplish through your writing? What does it mean to be a writer, anyway? This workshop aims to provide you with the foundational knowledge and craft savviness to be confident in your unique creative instincts.

A poet and short fiction writer, Dylan Hopper (she/her) was born and raised in South Carolina, where she graduated from the College of Charleston summa cum laude with a B.A. in English Literature, a concentration in Creative Writing, and a minor in Psychology. Shortly after graduating, she attended the University of Iowa’s Summer Program in Poetry. She is currently pursuing an MFA at the University of Arkansas’ Program in Creative Writing and Translation where she teaches Creative Writing and Essay Writing. Her work meditates on the nature of identity, gender, sexuality, and spirituality. Her poems and short stories have been published in Miscellany, Plain China, and The Molotov Cocktail.
