Join us for an immersive journey through time and sound with "The Beat is the History," a unique workshop series that brings the rich, polyrhythmic beats of the Americas to life.

Our program delves into the vibrant confluence of the African diaspora, geography, and human expression that defines the music of the Americas.

Workshop Highlights:

The Polyrhythmic Beat: Explore the deep connections between the rhythms of the African diaspora and the heartbeat of American music.
Shaken and Stirred: Uncover the dynamic fusion of African, European, and Indigenous influences that have shaped the musical landscape.
Music of the Americas: Experience the evolution of new music from a new world, born from a diverse cultural tapestry.

What to Expect:

Engaging Lectures: Learn from experts about the historical and cultural contexts that shaped the music we love today.
Musical Sampling: Listen to a curated selection of tracks that illustrate the themes discussed.
Hands-On Activities: Participate in interactive sessions where you can try your hand at creating polyrhythmic beats using a limited set of provided instruments.
Instrument Exhibit: Immerse yourself in the touch, feel, and sound of over 30 vintage and contemporary musical instruments integral to the music of the Americas.

Join us for two unforgettable workshop engagements where history and music come alive. Let the beat of the past inspire your present and shape your future. Sign up today and be part of a rhythmic journey through history!

This event is hosted by Echoes and Footprints, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization intended to uncover, celebrate and promote the rhythm of the Americas with in-country partners through research, experiential learning, sustainable tourism and local empowerment. They work with ethnomusicologists, historians and linguists to explore, document and promote the evolution of culture rooted in the African diaspora in the Americas.
