2:00pm - 4:00pm
Fayetteville Public Library
Ziegler Reception Room (1st Floor)Songs & Stories is an intimate, acoustic performance featuring powerful songs written in Music in Common programs, a film screening, and a curated conversation.
For the past twenty years, Music in Common has been curating experiences for people across social divides to find common ground through facilitated conversation and music. Our programs have brought together Black and white Americans; Israelis and Palestinians; Muslims, Christians, and Jews; and American-born, immigrant, and refugee youth among others. To date, we have worked in more than 400 communities worldwide and have directly served over 10,000 people. Nearly 75 songs have been written in our programs by these communities with powerful messages of hope, unity, and peace.
Songs & Stories features a selection of these songs performed in an intimate acoustic format interwoven with the stories of those who wrote them. These moving and engaging events also include a film screening and curated conversation led by Music in Common Founder & Executive Director, Todd Mack, and Music in Common Program & Projects Manager, Trey Carlisle, who collectively have led nearly all of MIC’s programs. Seasoned musicians, Todd & Trey perform the Songs & Stories setlist as an acoustic duo, inviting local musicians they know in the area to join in whenever feasible.
